Mount Kilimanjaro Climb

Mount Kilimanjaro is the crown of Tanzania. Rising abruptly from the open plains, carped by clouds, it is one of Africa's classic images. At 19,344 feet, it is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest walkable summit in the world, also one of the highest volcanoes in the world. The lure is irresistable, and a trek up Kili is an essential part of a visit to Tanzania. The trek is even more attractive because, with the right preparation, you can walk all the way to the summit without the need of ropes or technical climbing experience.

Kilimanjaro is a dormant, but not extinct volcano. Ominous rumbles can sometimes be heard and gases emerge from the fume holes in the crater. Although just three degrees south of the equator, the peaks of both Kibo and Mawenzi have permanent caps of snow and ice.

The mountain can be climbed along the following different routes :

  • Marangu route
  • Machame route
  • Umbwe route
  • Londrosi route
  • Rongai route
  • lemosho route
